Just out of high school, I decided to earn my associate degree in nursing. Nursing was a satisfying career for me but I longed for something with regular hours and a bit more responsibility. With two young children at home, and a demanding full time job , I turned to distance education to earn my bachelor?s degree in nursing.
From a tactical standpoint, getting an online degree was not as complicated as I had expected, although the schoolwork itself was often times demanding. I received most of my textbooks in the mail and I was able to work at my own pace as long as I completed the assignments by their due date. It allowed me to learn while keeping up with my work and family obligations. When questions arose, the faculty was available by phone or email and assignments were ? easily returned via the Internet .
Having a bachelors of science in nursing has helped me to advance my career. I was promoted to manager of an acute care unit at my hospital after moving from floor nurse to supervisor. With the management experience I gained, I got a job at a local nonprofit health care organization.
For six years I advanced through the ranks of that organization to earn the title of Director of Nursing, the highest paid nurse in the organization. My contributions help determine the direction and success of the organization, whose mission is to support the community where I live.
I would not have been able to complete my bachelor?s degree had online education not been available to me . It allowed me to advance my career and education while demonstrating that I was dedicated and responsible.
