City leaders hope to save golf course
City leaders are looking at the future of the Pecan Valley Golf Course after it closed two weeks ago.
According to managers, investors pulled out because the course was not as profitable as they had hoped.
However, District Councilwoman Leticia Ozuna said she believes there is still something there.
Ozuna, along with other community leaders and some golf experts are working to save the course and the historic land.
"The roles that the golf course has played, not just in terms of a recreational facility, but also as a way of preserving a lot of our historical features," said Ozuna.
She also cites that the course sits on a flood plain, making it an important part of the Salado Creek Drainage Basin.
"You can see that it does indeed hold a great deal of the runoff from the Salado Creek," said Ozuna. "It is ideally situated along the creek to retain much of the water."
Although the city has not released any plans to buy the course, community leaders are planning to meet to discuss what owners intend to do with it.
That meeting is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. at Highland Hills Elementary School.
